Surf Fashion – What’s the Deal with Surf Leggings?

What’s the deal with surf leggings, you ask? Well, quite a lot! We first noticed Amigas wearing their yoga pants in the surf to protect them from things like jellyfish, rashes from wax, and the sun. They looked cute but we’d never tried them. Recently when designing our new custom rashguard (see photo of Sam modeling the Surf With Amigas rashguard below) we decided to add some leggings to the line (see Jackie in the leggings). We tried them ourselves and became addicted! They’re functional, cute, and they just feel good to wear. Perfect for surf, yoga, dancing, or whatever you feel like doing. Surf With Amigas surf leggings are only available in the SWA Suitcase Boutique by coming on a retreat with us.

Southern Nicaragua Retreat Highlights

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFttm1eRR58]

Once a year we pack up all the boards and drive South to Magnific Rock for our annual Southern Nicaragua Retreat. This year we had a very diverse group of Amigas from a few different countries including Peru and Australia. We had pretty small surf which allowed us to surf three different spots. Everyone improved so much!

Surf Hats are Cool

We used to think hats were dorky – something the old crusty man was wearing. But living in Central America has changed that. We’re in the sun so much that we really don’t want to look like leather-face woman in 10 years. We found these awesome surf hats by CrossenSurf and are now super stoked. If you’re coming on a retreat, you might want to invest in one of these. You can find them online at crossensurf.com or here in Nicaragua in our Suitcase Boutique!

Galloping on the Beach – There’s nothing else like it!

[youtube=http://youtu.be/1kUAsKWK2zI]

Even if your horseback riding experience consists of one ride at a carnival when you were 8 years old, if you believe in yourself and get in sync with the horse, you can gallop down the beach at full speed. It’s an unbelievable feeling. There’s nothing else like it. Come to a Surf Yoga Adventure Retreat in Nicaragua and fulfill your fantasies!
Thanks to Nadia Schulkind for the words and demonstration.

Shortboarders Score in El Salvador

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RW8esar7kD8]

When I first started Surf With Amigas, I had envisioned a place where girls that already knew how to surf could come and improve their skills. In reality we end up doing a lot of surf lessons for beginners, which is fun too. This trip to El Salvador had the most shredding shortboarders we’ve ever assembled which was amazing! Check them out shredding it up at a variety of spots in El Salvador.

We are headed back to these spots in October! Come shred with us!

Instructor Profile – Nadia

One day Nadia was minding her own business out surfing the Boom (gnarly tubular wave rarely surfed by girls) when Holly paddled over and started in with 20 questions. “what’s your name? where are you from? where are you staying? how long are you here? have you ever taught surf lessons? want to come work for me?” It’s rare to see smiling girls out shredding with the boys and Nadia was out there with a big smile, paddling around and dropping into bombs. She spent a few weeks in November with Surf with Amigas and came back for two months this summer. We hope she’ll be back again! This is why….

Shortboarders at the Point

[youtube=http://youtu.be/h16t8e7i3-4]

At Surf With Amigas women’s surf and yoga retreat we focus on helping ladies of all abilities improve their skills. We get a lot of beginners who have never surfed before, and quite a few ladies with some experience who want to improve. Most participants ride longboards or funshapes in the 8′-9′ range. But, we do sometimes get some shortboarders. This week we had 3 shortboarders wanting to work on their skills and luckily we also had a nice swell which allowed us to get a few sessions in at the point.

Meet Nadia – Instructor for June/July Retreats

Nadia is a very excited, trippy, hippy, funky, frothy, shredder. She grew up bouncing between San Diego and Hawaii, so she’s pretty good on her surfboard. She likes cold beer, reggae music, and galloping on horseback down the beach. She has a big soft spot for skinny Nicaraguan dogs.

Basically, she’s a lot of fun to hang out with. If you come on a retreat in June or July 2013, you’ll see what I mean!
