Shortboarders Score in El Salvador

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RW8esar7kD8]

When I first started Surf With Amigas, I had envisioned a place where girls that already knew how to surf could come and improve their skills. In reality we end up doing a lot of surf lessons for beginners, which is fun too. This trip to El Salvador had the most shredding shortboarders we’ve ever assembled which was amazing! Check them out shredding it up at a variety of spots in El Salvador.

We are headed back to these spots in October! Come shred with us!

Dancing and Shredding in El Salvador

Introducing a new dance move called “the pelican swat” in between super fun waves at Sunzal, the girls from Amigas Surf and Yoga Retreats are always having a good time!

The “pelican swat” dance move originated when Holly was teasing Nadia about her tendency to arm flail. Holly happens to have unusually long arms (the better to carry your longboard for you!) and suggested that if she flailed like Nadia she’d end up swatting pelicans left and right. And just like that, a new dance move was born!

We’re doing retreats at this location in October! Come play! See the Schedule for details!

Shortboarders at the Point

At Surf With Amigas women’s surf and yoga retreat we focus on helping ladies of all abilities improve their skills. We get a lot of beginners who have never surfed before, and quite a few ladies with some experience who want to improve. Most participants ride longboards or funshapes in the 8′-9′ range. But, we do sometimes get some shortboarders. This week we had 3 shortboarders wanting to work on their skills and luckily we also had a nice swell which allowed us to get a few sessions in at the point.

Pro Surfers Rebecca Woods and Paige Hareb in Central America

Rebecca Woods is an old friend from my competitive days. She’s been on the World Tour for years and amazingly to me, is still out there traveling and competing! She and her friend Paige passed through Nicaragua on a Central American adventure. We met up for a session at the Boom and they were both shredding, but I was really stoked to check out the footage of their sessions in El Salvador (the big rights), especially since we’re headed to El Salvador for a retreat next week. Check out a couple of the world’s best surfing women shredding it up in Nicaragua and El Salvador and be inspired!

Determination is Rewarded

Learning to surf requires determination. Standing up in the whitewash can be easy but taking it to the next level and riding green waves – especially if the waves are big – can be tricky. But if you have the right attitude, and a little help, anything is possible! At Surf With Amigas Women’s Surf Retreat we have a lot of experience and have had a ton of success at helping ladies achieve their goals.

Whitewash Handstands

[youtube=http://youtu.be/5KvvwVPDjgY]

This week we had a big group of beginners who were getting some great waves on the inside whitewash. We feel that giving support and encouragement is one of the most important aspects of learning to surf and at Surf With Amigas Surf Yoga Retreat in Nicaragua there’s always tons of cheering, clapping, claiming, and high-fiving. This week there were also a lot of handstands going on. Super fun!

Foxy and Friends Go Surfing

When an Amiga showed up with her dog we were shocked and surprised, but Foxy the little Pom turned out to be so awesome and we were stoked to have such a cute little mascot for the week. She hung out on the beach and cheered on the ladies, hung out at the bar and watched shots go down, and was the best poser in the group when the camera came out.

Amigas Surf the Biggest Swell of the Year

[youtube=http://youtu.be/hxchxrc0Ev0]

After a few days of really cute waves in Southern Nicaragua the BIG swell hit. Enormous waves were breaking way outside sending huge walls of whitewash steamrolling into the beach. Holly led a handful of brave Amigas into the lineup and coached them into some really nice ones in between a lot of duck-diving and turtle-rolling. If you believe in yourself, anything is possible (even surfing really big waves)!
