We toast cacao beans, grind them up, then make our own delicious chocolate balls. We help baby turtles hatch and make their way to the ocean. We ride horses at high speeds. We surf and surf and surf. This is what it’s like to be an Amiga at Surf With Amigas Surf Yoga Retreats in North Nicaragua.
They may look like humans but their mermaid fins are revealed the moment they hit the saltwater. They nurture their muscles while mixing cement to build a high school for Nicaraguan children, then dive into the ocean at sunset after a few sips of cold beer. The life of an Amiga.
It’s super sunny in Nicaragua and we spend long hours in the surf. Our eyes get fried. Our lips blister. Wrinkles are multiplying! Fortunately, we came across these sweet little hats by Surf Munkey. They are really light weight and totally comfortable! We plan to order a bunch to include in our Suitcase Boutique very soon! Here’s a silly video from the first day we tested them out including some interesting synchronized surfing by Jackie and Jam Slam. Enjoy!
There’s nothing like galloping at full speed down the beach at sunset after a morning spent trying to catch the wave of your life. Think you wouldn’t be able to fully gallop down the beach on a horse? You’re wrong! Believe in yourself and you can do it! Just watch these ladies…
Drop a jalapeno rum shot into a glass of club soda then drink it down. Hike to the top of an active volcano, put on an orange jumpsuit, and boogie it up before sliding down. Paddle out to super cute overhead waves, admire the pelicans, paddle in, and charge down!
This is how we do it! It’s not just about surfing, it’s about enjoying every minute with a new set of awesome Amigas!
We love El Salvador for it’s warm water, friendly people, and long right point breaks. We have two retreats on the schedule now for late October at the world class wave called Las Flores. October is still a great time for surf, but a slower time for surf travel which is why we schedule retreats during that time – to avoid the peak season crowds. But, we often get ladies wanting to travel in August. What to do?
Recently one of our yoga teachers took her honeymoon to El Salvador and emailed us raving about an awesome spot with WAY fewer people, great waves, and a really cool place to stay. I took note. A few weeks later I met some guys out surfing who also mentioned the same place and confirmed everything our yoga teacher had reported.
Thus, I introduce to you a brand new retreat location in Central El Salvador. Since I haven’t been there, this will be somewhat of an exploratory trip. For that reason, we’re taking $100 off the normal El Salvador retreat price. Come explore with Jackie, Nikki, and I on our first adventure to a brand new spot!
July 27 – August 3 2013 $1600 covers everything but your flight into San Salvador (and alcohol).
You will be part of a carefully selected group of Amigas chosen to experience a brand new location with three great waves right out front of the place we’ll stay. For questions and more info: [email protected]
Sometimes we allow guys to come and Surf With Amigas. This time we got a trio of super cool guys from LA who wanted to improve their surfing. It created a totally different energy. Thinking about coming on a retreat yourself? Here’s what these guys had to say!
Julia is an 8th grader at a Montessori school in South Carolina that requires each student to participate in a week-long internship program. Julia got to come down and spend a week surfing with Amigas, learning about waves, culture, giving back, and having a good time. She was shredding every single day and loved every minute of it!
Jackie, Jamie, and Holly took out a new 9’2 Equinox longboard with a GoPro mount on the nose for a sunset session and captured some super cute moving pictures.
Winter in Nicaragua is nice. Offshore winds, super fun waves, lots of Amigas. In between pushing Amigas into waves, I sometimes get a chance to sneak off and score a few fun waves by myself!
