Surf Coaching in Costa Rica for All Levels

Surf Coaching in Costa Rica

At our Costa Rican location, we offer surf coaching retreats for advanced beginners and intermediate surfers. We define advanced beginners as those that have already stood up in the white wash, can paddle themselves outside, and are ready to start riding green waves. Although we have been flexible with this description, these are the types of surfers that tend to have the best time and are able to take advantage of the amazing waves our Costa Rican location has to offer!

Sunny Longboarding Session in Costa Rica

costa rica, surf yoga retreat, christmas week, dec 22-29 2018, surf with amigas

This week had absolutely firing surf. Each day had it’s own flavor – from super long point breaks, to adventurous boat trips, to bigger waves, we sampled a bit of everything. Normally we have a mix of ability levels, but on this retreat, almost everyone was pretty close to the same level. They were all catching tons of waves and working on turning.

One day the swell was a bit smaller, but still offering really clean long waves. Holly had just gotten a new longboard so she convinced everyone to paddle out on longer boards. Since it was super sunny, everyone threw on surf leggings and big floppy hats for full sun protection. Holly paddled out with the GoPro to capture all the awesome rides from a surfer’s perspective.

Surf Fashion – What’s the Deal with Surf Leggings?

What’s the deal with surf leggings, you ask? Well, quite a lot! We first noticed Amigas wearing their yoga pants in the surf to protect them from things like jellyfish, rashes from wax, and the sun. They looked cute but we’d never tried them. Recently when designing our new custom rashguard (see photo of Sam modeling the Surf With Amigas rashguard below) we decided to add some leggings to the line (see Jackie in the leggings). We tried them ourselves and became addicted! They’re functional, cute, and they just feel good to wear. Perfect for surf, yoga, dancing, or whatever you feel like doing. Surf With Amigas surf leggings are only available in the SWA Suitcase Boutique by coming on a retreat with us.

Escaping Cold Weather to a Warm Water Paradise

[youtube=http://youtu.be/DxUV-A7qW8M]

Our December retreat scored super awesome conditions with all day offshore winds, a few small days of surf to get the Amigas warmed up, and then a few days of bigger waves that allowed them to get the best waves of their lives. Of course there were awesome sunsets, plenty of silliness, and delicious cocktails sprinkled throughout the week. Standard! Love sunsets, warm water, and surfing with new friends? Come play with us!

Learn to Surf with Amigas

Our location in Northern Nicaragua is an awesome place to learn to surf. The waves break far out and gently roll towards shore making it really easy to figure out how to stand up and ride them all the way in! There are great waves for intermediate surfers too and we always end up with a mixture of abilities, but the group featured in this video had mostly beginners. Check out the footage for some great rides, including the very last clip of Ahyoung. She didn’t even stand up on day 1 but ended up scoring the wave of the week with an awesome high 5 from William the sexy French guy! Score!

Ruth Gained Surfing Confidence at Suave Dulce

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55GR8CK6-ZA]
Ruth doesn’t look like a “Ruth”, so we started calling her “Adriana”.
She’s cute and sassy with the longest eyelashes I’ve ever seen on a surfer – definitely not what I imagined someone named “Ruth” to look like.
During her week at Suave Dulce the amiga formerly known as “Ruth” scored the best waves of her life and definitely increased her confidence in the water. Click “play” above to check out her story.
