“PLUG INTO MEXICAN SURF CULTURE ON THIS CRUISEY LONGBOARD SURF ADVENTURE”
This retreat is for: Surfers who want to stand up for the first time or more experienced surfers who want to level up their existing skills on long peeling lefts. Best for beginners and advanced beginner longboarders.
THE RESORT
We’ll stay at a cute beachfront eco-hotel, surrounded by lush gardens and only a few steps from the beach. This is the perfect escape to get out of your normal routine and re-connect with yourself and the ocean while having tons of fun! It is located about 40 minutes from the colorful and friendly fishing town, Zihuatanejo, where you can find charming local markets and delicious street tacos, and only a 5-minute drive from Troncones which is known for surfing, fishing, and laidback vibes. If you’re looking for an adventure that’s more remote but close to the waves, you’ll love this location.
The eco-friendly hotel features 7 comfortable private rooms, (some fan-cooled, some with AC) and 1 shared AC room. The chefs will make a variety of delicious locally-inspired meals that will keep us fueled for all of our surf sessions.
There’s a dance-studio–inspired yoga space, a refreshing swimming pool with a pool bar, and plenty of well-designed areas to relax between surf sessions. The property has a stylish aesthetic with comfortable spaces to hang out, unwind, and reset. The hotel is Mexican woman-owned and entirely run by women, which gives the space a welcoming and feminine energy—it’s truly an ideal venue for a SWA retreat!
Meals are fresh and locally inspired, with a focus on Mexican flavors that keep you fueled and ready for more time in the water.
THE SURF
We’ll primarily focus our surf energy on a mellow, cruisey, long world-class left point break. Known as the ‘’wave machine’’ in Mexico, this wave breaks slowly and gently, providing long, smooth rides that can stretch over several hundred meters. Regardless of swell size, the area has consistent surf with options for beginners and advanced beginners. Whether you are a first-timer or want to take your surfing to the next level, there’s something for everyone and we’ll split up the group by ability so everyone is appropriately supported or challenged by what the swell is offering that day. The main spot is accessible by a 15-min drive on a dirt road through a beautiful palm grove. This wave is ideal for long boarding!
At this location we partner with a local surf coaching team made up of male instructors. While each of our locations have unique local community considerations, at this spot successfully running retreats requires working with locals. The benefit to Amigas is that the coach to client ratio is double our normal program. You can expect on-wave coaching by local specialists as well as our usual super supportive female coaching team lead by Laila.
