Ava Turnbull hails from the busy shores of Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, where she grew up doing nippers (surf life saving), free diving, spear fishing, skating, line fishing and of course surfing. Although her immediate family doesn’t share the same oceanic passions, they spent every possible moment down at the beach with her. She’s been an ocean baby all of her life letting the waves and tides pull her wherever they please.

She started surf coaching in Bondi at 16 years old. Shortly after she moved to Byron Bay, where she continued coaching and settled into a full time role, coaching and managing a surf school in the heart of Byron. She eventually headed up the business development management of that surf school which took her around Australia to massive international tourism events.

Surfing has also taken her traveling all around the world to places like the wild corners of the Indonesian archipelago, Hawaii, and even more off the beaten track down in Tasmania, Australia.
