Becca Kenney

SURF INSTRUCTOR

Becca Kenney

Becca Kenney grew up far from the beach in North Carolina but whenever school was out her family of 7 would head to a quiet island off the coast. Her family taught her how to be a skillful beach bum with long days swimming, exploring, and playing games. A surfboard was introduced to Becca by a friend when she was about 6 years old, and then she continued surfing throughout the summers as a child.

Becca went to college at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (go heels) and received degrees in Exercise & Sport Science and Studio Art. The adventure bug took over after graduating in 2018 and for the next 5 years, Becca went through cycles of working seasonally and exploring around the world in search of warm waves. In 2020 after 6 years of surf instructing experience, she and her partner opened their own surf school on that same little island in NC.

Becca got connected with SWA while camping on a beach in Mexico where she met Laila (cool girls unite)! If she’s not on a surf trip, you might find her working in her ceramics studio, in the ocean, or frolicking around outside with her dog Doug. Becca likes to keep it fresh and surf all different kinds of boards/waves, but when it comes down to it, she goes to the ocean as a place to play.
