Roxanne is from the Philippines and grew up with very strict parents who would not allow her to surf because they thought it was too dangerous. She moved to San Francisco, got a car, and at age 27 began surfing in Pacifica. She told her mom a little white lie that she was coming to Nicaragua for a “super safe” yoga retreat, in order to get some coaching on how to improve her surfing. As she says, “i’m 29 and wanting to enjoy life, so that’s what i’m doing”. I hope her mom doesn’t see this!
