Amigas Surf the Biggest Swell of the Year

[youtube=http://youtu.be/hxchxrc0Ev0]

After a few days of really cute waves in Southern Nicaragua the BIG swell hit. Enormous waves were breaking way outside sending huge walls of whitewash steamrolling into the beach. Holly led a handful of brave Amigas into the lineup and coached them into some really nice ones in between a lot of duck-diving and turtle-rolling. If you believe in yourself, anything is possible (even surfing really big waves)!

Chelsea’s Trip with Amigas to the Philippines

[vimeo http://vimeo.com/65024266]

Chelsea Denning joined us in the Philippines for her second trip with Surf With Amigas. She’s super cute, fun to hang out with, and always the first one up in the morning ready to go surfing! After the trip she sent us this great thank you note with a link to the video she edited from the clips collected on the trip.

Hi Holly!

I wanted to thank you for another AMAZING retreat! I had an awesome time and thought the Philippines location was just perfect! I appreciate that you always make sure we have a great time and in addition to the fun surf making it a full adventure trip.
My husband says every time I come back he can see a noticeable improvement in my surfing and especially my confidence in surfing. I really appreciate all your help in pushing me and guiding me to get better at surfing. I love surfing so much and realize that it only gets more fun the better you get so am looking forward to continuing to improve!
Thank you also for all the awesome video footage. I did some video editing and put it together along with a bunch of footage I took too. Here it is!
I can’t wait to hear about next year’s retreats! I’m already looking forward to coming back and joining you in maybe El Salvador or Ecuador or any other awesome location you have lined up!
Thanks Holly!!!!

Julia’s New Skills Earn Her Competitive Success

A few months ago we had Julia “the grom” Van Raalte participate in a retreat in Nicaragua. We worked with her on competitive strategy like waiting for the biggest waves, and surfing strategy like going all the way to the bottom then all the way to the top of the wave. I got really excited to receive the following email from her talking about her newfound competitive success. See below and cheer with us for Julia!

Hey Holly,

Just wanted to tell you about some of my latest happenings. I recently competed in the year’s first ESA comp and had a great time. I followed your advice to put my sick middle-turns away, and placed 2nd in my age group, and then 2nd again in the Open Women’s division. For the latter, I won $300! It was so much fun to be at the beach, see friends, and make new one’s while catching some cute waves! Attached are pictures of my best wave from the Women’s Open heat and one of the awards announcement for Open.

On a slightly different, but equally exciting note, my Dwart came in, and it is absolutely beautiful! I’m going to paint it up this weekend and hopefully send you a picture or two of the finished product.

Sunny Morning Surf in the Philippines

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrFQxLc8taw]

Super cute waves, gorgeous water, sunny mornings. Life is good in the Philippines for our first of two women’s surf and yoga retreats. We wake up, get on a boat, paddle out to empty waves, duck dive in super clear water, and cheer for new friends. So sweet!

Dance Party

We like to boogie. We know how to get down. We are usually in bed by 9pm so we can get up early and shred, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t time for a little Salsa!

Shannon’s Testimonial

Shannon came on her first retreat with Surf With Amigas Surf Yoga Adventure Retreat in Feb of 2012 and learned to surf. She came back a year later, in Feb of 2013 and took her skills to the next level – catching her first green wave! She loved it and has vowed to try to come back again in 6 months! Here’s her testimonial.

Thanks from the Grom

“Grom” = A young surfer, usually under 15 years old, with ample excited energy who always wants to go surfing.

A few retreats ago we had a Grom by the name of Julia spend a week in Nicaragua. You can check out the video footage of her here.

It’s always fun to get messages of thanks after retreats, especially messages that show such continued excitement and desires to continue improving. Here’s one from Julia.

Dear Holly,

I really appreciate all the help you gave me when I was in Nicaragua. I had such a good time and my surfing progressed so much. After every video coaching session, I wrote down notes so I could keep working at home. Also, thank you for letting me ride your amazing Dwart. Dad contacted the guys at Rusty and we are looking into getting one, possibly with the exact same dimensions as yours! Not only did I have a fabulous time surfing with you guys, I also had such a great time bonding with everyone at the camp, especially Jackie, Nikki, and Jamrock. I had such a great time that I cried when we left El Coco Loco and when the plane took off from Managua.  Y’all’s taking the time to hang with me was really special. Attached are several pictures that Dad took that we thought you’d like.
