January 16th retreat highlights! Birthdays were celebrated and some bomb waves were ridden. The Amigas really came out of their comfort zone as the last several days of the retreat were met with some solid swell. Enjoy!

Instructors Surf and Party on a Week Off
Some might think the SWA instructors have the best job in the world. They spend a couple of weeks helping Amigas get the waves of their lives and then have a week or two off to party, surf, and play. Some might be right!
On a week off in early December, the waves ended being small, clean, and tubular. The Amigas staff were posted up at Hotel Chancletas and between surf sessions spent some time with new friends in a daily pool party. Here are some photo highlights from the week courtesy of Rick Briggs of @DondeX photography.
Abi smiles through a super cute bottom turn.
Kinda awkward when your head gets barreled but your butt gets left outside the tube. Ha ha!
One day when the waves were small, the girls took a boat trip to a river mouth around the corner, and girls did what girls do…. jumped off a boat for the photo.
Michelle rarely goes surfing without having a pineapple waiting for her on the beach or in this case, the boat!
Afternoon pool parties are a must!
Chloe paddles out at the river mouth.
Emily didn’t get any good tube shots even though she is actually an awesome tube rider. This is how it made her feel.
On weeks off, Holly usually goes into hermit mode getting work done on the computer and hanging out with her little girl. But when the waves are hollow she may sneak out and grab a view.
Jackie has been working hard on her tube riding skills. It’s paying off as she scored the best photo of the batch. YEW!
Michelle aka “Grom” is probably the most frothy of the bunch.
She has also been working on her tube riding. Nice one!
The girls compete for “likes” on Instagram. Looks like Chloe just pulled ahead! Better get some more tube shots, Em-dawg!
Reesie has been seriously stepping it up in the surf lately. Sick shot Amiga!
Awesome photos by this guy, Rick Briggs! MUCHAS GRACIAS!

Advice from Marilyn on Surfing Past Age 60
[youtube=https://youtu.be/FPjyLqcVsAc]
At Surf With Amigas we are always inspired by ladies who consider surfing and adventures to be lifelong pursuits. At 62, Marilyn Edwards is hot, fit, and very stylish on her surfboard. She published a womens surf magazine called Wahine for a few years in the late 90s and is very knowledgeable on the sport. In this video she gives some advice on staying young and shares some of her personal philosophy. Very inspiring!
Late July Retreat in North Nica
[youtube=https://youtu.be/ps5uhW03Mg0]
On our very last retreat of the Summer season in Northern Nicaragua we got super lucky with good swell, great conditions and a more shredding than usual crew of ladies. We even had a shortboard ripper from NorCal who showed up and inspired the beginners to go harder! It was a crazy fun week!
South Nica Highlights

Every year we love heading down South for a little guaranteed all-day offshore froth mission. This year we had a super shredder in Christina who may have scored the biggest wave by an amiga ever! What do you think? Ever seen an Amiga go bigger in one of our videos??? Let us know in the comments!
Dancing Riding and Surfing
At Surf With Amigas, we love to dance! This group was particularly into it as well with some Jersey girls who had some serious moves. Twerking anyone? It was an awesome week with pretty much all beginners who were riding green waves by the last day. Check it out!

Bass Lake to Nicaragua – a Blog Post by an Amiga
Below is a very detailed and awesome blog post written by an Amiga named Kelly Fine who recently joined us on a retreat in Northern Nicaragua. To read the full story of her experience click here!
Nicaragua, Part One: From Sadness to Surfing
Last year I decided, with the help of my hubby, to finally do a surfing trip, since I was turning forty-five.
I convinced my childhood BFF, Kari, to join me, so we traveled to Nicaragua for a week during the end of May for surfing, yoga and other activities with Amigas Surf and Yoga Adventure Retreats.
Leading up to the trip I would tell people, “I’m going to Nicaragua to learn how to surf before my aching, aging body is unable to try.”
Responses varied: “Wow, that sounds awesome!” and “I would love to do that!” or “Why are you going there? Isn’t that where all the political unrest is?” and “Are you crazy? Women are stolen from those countries every day!”
But the haters could just keep hating, because I was determined to go. Never mind the thought going through my head as I got ready for the trip…”Am I having a mid-life crisis?” Who in their right mind would decide to travel to a third world country to learn a sport, in a bikini designed specifically for surfing that young women wear, and decide to have ALL their bits waxed in order to do so? Yep, that would be me and, yes, I probably am having a mid-life crisis.
