Panama 2016 is Happening!

Join us this April 16-23 or April 23-30 for a week of surf, yoga, and adventures in Panama!

We met an awesome Amiga from Panama on a retreat in El Salvador last year and she clued us in on a hidden gem in Southern Panama. We visited her spot with two groups of Amigas last year, and loved it so much, we’ve decided to go back this April!

With the explorations of last year, we found a new location- a different hotel, right on the beach we liked surfing the best. The surf spot is right out in front of the resort. Wake up with coffee, watch the waves all day, and surf your brains out!

The wave out front is good for all levels, from advanced beginners to super shredders. There are peaks up and down the beach (the waves get bigger and heavier at one end, and smaller and cuter at the other) and a few other spots within driving distance.

Accommodations at beach front surf camp
Daily surf guidance, in water coaching and post-session video analysis.
Daily yoga classes to relax and inspire you

SWA Instructor Kasey Surfing in Nicaragua

We recently had a young surfer from Australia named Kasey Martin join the Surf With Amigas team. She came down to help us out from May til August and was shredding the whole time. We’re hoping she’ll come back again and help us out in 2016. Until then, here are some highlights from her trip.

New Surf With Amigas // Salt Gypsy Leggings

June Retreat – Staff Shredding and Amigas learning

June is prime time in Nicaragua. The rain starts, the land turns green, and the swells start rolling in. During this first retreat of June we were blessed with some really good waves allowing the staff girls and a couple of amigas who had some prior surfing experience to get some sick rides. Check out the footage for evidence of Jackie George on a really nice right along with Amiga Nikki shredding on a longboard.

The great thing about our location is that no matter the size there are waves for everyone and the ladiess who were learning to surf for the first time were getting great waves too.

Nicaragua, Part One: From Sadness to Surfing

Last year I decided, with the help of my hubby, to finally do a surfing trip, since I was turning forty-five.

I convinced my childhood BFF, Kari, to join me, so we traveled to Nicaragua for a week during the end of May for surfing, yoga and other activities with Amigas Surf and Yoga Adventure Retreats.

Leading up to the trip I would tell people, “I’m going to Nicaragua to learn how to surf before my aching, aging body is unable to try.”

Responses varied: “Wow, that sounds awesome!” and “I would love to do that!” or “Why are you going there? Isn’t that where all the political unrest is?” and “Are you crazy? Women are stolen from those countries every day!”

But the haters could just keep hating, because I was determined to go. Never mind the thought going through my head as I got ready for the trip…”Am I having a mid-life crisis?” Who in their right mind would decide to travel to a third world country to learn a sport, in a bikini designed specifically for surfing that young women wear, and decide to have ALL their bits waxed in order to do so? Yep, that would be me and, yes, I probably am having a mid-life crisis.

New Trio of Instructors for Rainy Season Retreats

The rain hasn’t started, but we’re still calling our series in Nicaragua from May – August the rainy season (do your rain dances and send any drops our way!). We are very excited to have a trio of new smiling faces rocking the Surf With Amigas rash guards. We have two Aussies and one Oregonian with very different but very awesome personalities who will be happy to help you catch your very first wave or perfect your duck dive. If you’re coming down this season you will get a chance to laugh and share a cold beer (not to mention a wave) with one or all of these three.
