El Salvador was epic, but we’re pretty stoked to be back at our home base in Northern Nicaragua. Here’s the highlight reel from our first retreat of the season. Looking forward to more fun and frothing ahead!

Enjoy the highlights video from our second October surf yoga adventure retreat in El Salvador. There were some super long rides where Amigas were learning to do cutbacks on longboards and a lot of dancing. Come surf with us in El Salvador in October/November 2015. Send an email to [email protected] to be added to the interested list and alerted when dates are posted!

On this retreat in El Salvador we had a solid crew of shortboarders who wanted to explore some nearby waves. Our instructors Michelle and Kim Mayer were more than happy to show them a wave just down the beach called La Bocana. In case you think Surf With Amigas is just for longboarders, here’s some evidence that shortboarders are more than welcome![youtube=http://youtu.be/wB5SpHw_zY4]
You don’t have to like to drink so have the best time of your life at Surf With Amigas, but we do enjoy a few cocktails in the afternoons. On this particular retreat an Amiga from Alaska came up with a crazy drinking game called Icing. Watch to see how it goes and go ahead and Ice your friends Amiga’s style.
The El Salvador retreats are geared for advanced beginners and intermediate surfers. This week we had a good mix of shortboarders and longboarders. While the shortboard shredders chose to walk down the beach to a different break, the longboarders cruised right out front for some really nice rides.
Join us in October in El Salvador to get in on this!
We’re finally getting through all the incredible footage captured a few weeks ago on the first of our two El Salvador advanced beginner/intermediate retreats. Watch for more videos of the surf action and silliness to be dropping soon, but here’s the highlight reel.
We will be heading back to El Salvador in October/November 2015 and these retreats filled up super fast this year. If you’re interested in getting in on the action next year send us a message at [email protected] to be added to the list!

Every now and then we get a solid group of shortboard shredders on a retreat that allows us to break off into a smaller group and get some serious shredding done. Here’s a group of frothers in El Salvador exploring a rivermouth just south of the main retreat location.
I first met Emily aka Em-dogs when she was in High School. I was home in between events on the world tour and slightly bored since there weren’t any cool surfer girls my own age who didn’t have full time jobs. I noticed a little crew of high school surfer girls and offered to take them under my wing and drive them to places like Trestles and Oceanside in the summer when our beaches were flat (the South Bay community where we’re from doesn’t pick up South swells and is typically about knee high and terrible all summer long). Emily was the quietest and most responsible of the group, although when she did say something she usually had everyone rolling in laughter. Those early summer road trips turned into a week-long trip to the North Shore of Oahu and then a trip to check out my new home break in Nicaragua in 2010. When looking for a calm responsible surf instructor who could be a good listener and also someone to laugh with, Emily was a natural choice.
Emily is 25 years old and hails from Palos Verdes, California. She grew up surfing the South Bay of LA and was lucky enough to have a tight knit group of local girl surfers and the influences of Holly. She participated in contests throughout High School and ended up being the team captain of Peninsula High’s surf team her senior year. After graduating, her love for surfing definitely influenced her choice in colleges. She headed down to San Diego State University where she got a degree in Business Administration and scored some great waves. Emily also competed with her college surf team where they took home multiple state championship titles. Teaching surf lessons throughout college lead her to open her LA based surf school where she could share her love of surfing with people from all over the world. After her first trip in Nicaragua back in 2010 she vowed to be back and jumped at the opportunity to teach with Surf With Amigas!
Bethany Hamilton rips.
How does she do it?

We like to keep the energy fresh at Surf With Amigas which means bringing in new instructors occasionally. We met Sherrie last season when she was working for another surf camp in the area. She was always smiling and her moves in the water definitely caught our eye. We were excited when she offered to join our team for October and November! Read on to learn about Sherrie:
Surf. Travel. Lifestyle: Sherrie’s favorite things. Growing up on the beaches of the Central Coast of NSW Australia, her dad taught her to surf at a young age and she was hooked, always trying to figure out how to sustain a surfing lifestyle. Sherrie has entered in surfing competitions on and off since 1999, with some of her best results at the NSW State and Australian National longboarding Titles and recently winning 1st place at the 2014 Canadian National Longboarding Titles.
Surfing and the need for adventure has taken Sherrie all over the world, on her own solo surf missions in search of dream waves and tropical paradise. She has surfed in Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Canada, USA, Hawaii, Mexico, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru and Chile.
After completing a Bachelor Degree of Naturopathic Medicine and Massage Therapy in 2009 she moved to Canada to become a snowboarder and work as a Massage Therapist in Heli Ski lodges. After a few winters in the mountains the ocean was calling her name and she headed west to the Canadian Surf town of Tofino and became a Surf Instructor.
Sherrie has been surf instructing for the past 4 years and discovered that she can combine her love of surfing, traveling and living a healthy happy lifestyle by becoming a surf coach at surfcamps and travel the world doing so. She has taught for a few camps throughout the world and is stoked to be joining the Surf with Amigas team, show guests around some of her favourite surf breaks while happily teaching some longboarding style and afterwards mixing guests a mean cocktail during Happy Hour.
