Galloping on the Beach – There’s nothing else like it!

[youtube=http://youtu.be/1kUAsKWK2zI]

Even if your horseback riding experience consists of one ride at a carnival when you were 8 years old, if you believe in yourself and get in sync with the horse, you can gallop down the beach at full speed. It’s an unbelievable feeling. There’s nothing else like it. Come to a Surf Yoga Adventure Retreat in Nicaragua and fulfill your fantasies!
Thanks to Nadia Schulkind for the words and demonstration.

Holly Bendall Joins Surf With Amigas for October El Salvador Retreats

20 year old sponsored surfer, lifeguard, and former BMX competitor joins Surf With Amigas as a surf instructor for fall retreats.

We get tons of emails from yoga instructors, surf instructors, and massage therapists looking for work. Most of those messages get filed away along with a response that says, “we’re all good right now, but we’ll keep you in mind for the future.”

Holly got a different response. She just seemed different. She is a passionate surfer, an active lifeguard, and has a degree in graphic design. She braves the frigid waters of the UK to get her surf fix, but also skates and snowboards. Unlike any of our other instructors, she holds a certificate in surf instruction – meaning that she has actually taken a course and studied how to be a better surf instructor.

We are really excited to hang out with Holly (we’re gonna need to come up with a nickname!) starting in October in El Salvador.

Check out this video of Holly in action on her bike.[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VFNHJ7Uvcg]

Surf Completely – Learn to Generate Speed on a Surfboard by Practicing on a Skateboard

[youtube=http://youtu.be/ycpafeySMfk]
After catching a wave and standing up, learning how to generate your own speed is the most important skill in learning to surf. The success of every turn relies on having enough speed. Unfortunately, it can be tricky to learn how to pump, but practicing on land on a skateboard is a great way to learn!

Having the right skateboard for the lesson is important. A longboard skateboard is key, and I prefer a Sector9 Sidewinder series skateboard. Check out the video for tips on how to improve your pumping by playing around on a skateboard.

Holly Beck Surfs and Skates in Ecuador

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8weMFBLNL_Y]

A couple years ago Holly took a trip to Ecuador with the Sector 9 girl’s team and scored with miles of uncrowded beach break, warm water, and great long smooth hills for skateboarding. One day we might even head back there with a group of Amigas.

Would you be excited about a retreat to Ecuador? Let us know by posting a comment!189845_10150151936366411_561376410_8830062_3022682_n

Kassia Meador – The Heart and The Sea

[http://vimeo.com/74271626]

This is an excerpt from The Heart & The Sea, an award winning left of center surf film by independent Australian filmmaker Nathan Oldfield. This section of the film features the elegant gliding of the ever graceful Kassia Meador.

Over three years in the making, The Heart & The Sea explores the joy that lies at the very centre of a surfing life: family, friends & a shared intimacy with the sea. Filmed in Australia, New Zealand, France & Spain, this is a gently refreshing & quietly enchanting contribution to the surf film genre.

If you like it, you can buy the film on iTunes.

Overcoming Fear and Feeling Safe with Surf With Amigas

[youtube=http://youtu.be/9CrbDFGKAPY]

Continuing our theme of highlighting ladies who overcome fear, this is the story of Debbie Teng.

Debbie Teng is a classic character with a big laugh and an awesome attitude. She came on her second retreat with Surf With Amigas to El Salvador and paddled to the outside for the first time. Despite big waves and a lot of fear, she overcame and caught her first green waves which left her feeling totally empowered, like she could conquer anything! If you have a great attitude, willingness to go for it, and trust in our instructors, we will help you achieve your dreams!

Best Wipeout Competition

[youtube=http://youtu.be/PUz9IcybyDU]
At Surf With Amigas we cherish a good wipeout. Of course, the goal is to make the wave, but along the way a few good wipeouts are always appreciated. In case you think we’re laughing at you, look closely for several entries from Holly, Nadia, and Nikki too. Jackie’s awesome wipeouts seem to always happen when the camera is looking the other way!

At the end of the video, you’ll see the top 3 wipeouts. Please comment and vote for your favorite. The winner will be announced Sept 20th.
*fortunately, no Amigas were injured in the making of this video!

Inspirational Story – Twin Sisters Support Each Other in Overcoming Fear

[youtube=http://youtu.be/IgBvVxROZ-E]

Sisters Therese and Thera came on a retreat together with very different goals. Thera had always imagined herself a surfer and as an athlete who excels at everything she tries she expected to be awesome at surfing right away. Therese was badly injured by a suicide bomber while serving in the military and came on the retreat primarily to support her sister without a lot of interest in surfing herself. The two of them together were incredibly inspirational. Check out their story.
